In 1992 (February), Swatch was part of the traditional Basler Fasnacht (Basel Carnival). Carlos Zanotelli sent me (courtesy of his colleague/friend and Crash Waggis Clique member Andreas Studer) the following photos and some additional info:
A group (Klicke / clique) of former stock exchange dealers at the Basel Stock Exchange (now SIX Swiss Exchange) participated with their own Crash-Waggis. In 1992 (at the peak of the Swatch craze), their theme was "Swatch". They had asked Swatch founder and CEO Nicolas G. Hayek sr. to borrow two larger than life Maxi Swatches to decorate the cars.
Translation of the texts on the cars:
JEDEM DOTSCH SI SWATCH - Jedem Trottel seine Swatch - For every fool a Swatch
HESCH HYT SCHO G’SWATCHT - Hast Du heute schon ge’swatcht ("gequatscht, geredet, telefoniert") - Did you swatch today already? (talk)
E SWATCH MUESCH HA, DENN BISCH DRBY, DRUM WILL I GAD
DR ERSCHTI SI!
Eine Swatch musst Du haben, dann bist Du dabei, darum will ich gleich der erste sein.
You have to get a Swatch, you're "in" then, so I want to be first.
