This page does not contain any fancy pictures but I hope to provide
some substantial information for collectors of Swatch watches. If you
want to see some pictures of interesting swatches then go to my virtual swatch museum.
Although I am probably a bit biased, it is highly recommended, especially
the section about special packagings which contains many pictures not
in the Swatch-Clopedia guide!

WANTED! Perfect Timing Swatch (#332/700). I am asking for your help. The
following bad incident has happened to a friend of mine without
internet access: The Perfect Timing Swatch (#332/700) has been stolen
on its way from the USA to Germany. Apparently, the package was opened
during transport and the watch (including the plexi glass tube) was
taken out of the parcel. The outer white cardboard tube was still in
the parcel and can be seen here. If this
watch shows up somewhere or is being offered for sale (remember that
it will come without the white paper tube), I would be VERY happy if
you could inform me about
the seller. This watch has been STOLEN! Back to the regular news
Club watch 2017/18. The new
Club watch 2017/18 with the theme Celebration
Time was pre-launched on 17-MAR in Milano, Italy.
Selected Gold & Pioneers members (about 25) and Italian Club
members (about 70) were invited. The new Club watch is a New
Gent called Spice
It Up (SUOZ261). As in the last years, a limited
variant of the club watch called Dress
To Impress (SUOZ713S, 888 pcs, 115 EURO) is released for
the launch events. The regular club watch is packaged in a paper
sleeve and the limited one in a nice thick
paper roll. Further pre-launch parties will take place in
(21-MAR), Nürnberg (22-MAR), Hannover (23-MAR). Other
countries: 25-MAR: Montreal, Tokyo,
Basel ("come when you want between 9.30 and 13.00"), Taiwan (xinming
store); 27-MAR: Eindhoven; 28-MAR: Paris. A
detailed report with many pictures from the Milano launch event will
follow in the next days. Update: You will receive
the welcome pack (parts of it are pictured here
on the lower right) only if you renew your club membership with a code
from the new club watch. If you use a code from any other watch
(Jain, ... [more to follow]), you will not receive the usual welcome
package.Update 2: Here
is a photo album from the Frankfurt pre-launch Thanks
to Thomas Chan, Fabien Perissinotto, Sophia Chang, and Monique
van Grieken for the information.
Jain special. According to
from the French singer Jain,
we might see a surprise (Swatch collaboration with her)... Update:
The New Gent special watch Zanaka
(SUOZ265S, 90 EURO, closeup)
will be launched (follow "#swatchxjain"
on instagram) on 09-MAR in Paris
during a showcase
with Jain.It is limited to 10150
pcs, numbered and the watch comes with a free club
membership. The watch is packaged in a nice paper
box (opened box). Here
is a video from the showcase with Jain ("Makeba"). Update
2: Do not renew your club membership with the Zanaka code
right now. It is valid for the club year 2017/18 which starts on
01-APR. So you will have to wait with the renewal until the next
month.A new video
(shot at the Swatch Lab in Zurich) shows how the Creative Director of
Swatch (Carlo Giordanetti) and Jain worked together to create this
exclusive Swatch. Here is
a Swiss newspaper report (Le Matin) about the watch.
Check out http://media.swatch.com/jain/,
very nice! Update 3: If you renew your club
membership with a code from the Jain special (after 01-APR),
you will get the plastic membership card (and all the online benefits
of course) but not the welcome pack (parts of it are pictured here
on the lower right). Thanks to Fabien Perissinotto for the hint, to Nicolò for the
infomation, and to Shidan de Vries for the photos.
Upcoming Swatch projects. At
the launch of the new Skin collection in London, Swatch Creative
Giordanetti announced several new upcoming
Swatch projects / specials: Up next is a "colorful
collaboration" with a British artist that will premiere at the Venice
Biennale in May. In addition, there will be an installation for the
Salone del Mobile in Milan with designer Paola Navone.
New Skin and Bellamy product
lines. According to the Key
Figures 2016 of the Swatch
Group, Swatch will launch the unique new very slim Skin
collection, as well as the second generation of the Swatch Bellamy as
a contactless payment device. The Skin collection launch will probably
be in 1-2 months
at the end of March. Update: The new Skin will be
available in two sizes: ~35mm and ~40mm diameter. The new
Skin watch will be a bit thicker than the current Skins. It
will have the same strap as the current Skins. Update 2:
A teaser page for the
new Skin is now online on the Swatch homepage. Hashtag is
#YOURMOVE. The new models will be available online on 16-MAR and
in stores on 23-MAR. Update 3: The new Skin
collection was launched on 16-MAR at 180
The Strand in London. The Skin collection consists
of eleven models in two different sizes: 37 mm and 40 mm.
An overview of the collection can be found on http://www.skin.swatch.
is a short report about the launch. A detailed report with many
pictures from the launch will follow in the next days.
Nick Hayek is optimistic. According
to this long interview
translation) with L'Agefi,
CEO Nick Hayek is optimistic that the watch market for the Swatch
Group has improved in the first quarter of 2017.
NZZ Bellamy Swatch. A new
Bellamy Swatch for the swiss(-german) market is now available: Bellamy NZZ am Sonntag (SVIB104-5000).
It is launched in connection with the 15th anniversary (note the XV
on the dial!) of the sunday newspaper NZZ
am Sonntag (Neue Züricher Zeitung am Sonntag) and the
watch will include a 6 months e-paper subscription for the
newspaper. The watch is packaged in a paper
sleeve and it is limited to 1500 pcs (1000 in the Swatch stores
and 500 via NZZ journal). Thanks to Fabien Perissinotto for the picture and information.
Russian Destination specials. Apparently, two
new Russian Destination specials (Moscow
and St. Petersburg) will be released soon. Thanks to Fabien Perissinotto for the information.
Time To Smile special. A
special Swatch Time To Smile (GN718C) has surfaced in the German
and other international (Canada) Swatch stores (very few
pieces). Apparently, the watch was distributed "randomly" among
the Swatch stores. The watch was probably issued in order to
protect the "Access" trademark (against Michael Korks; similar to the
models in the last years). The loop has an imprint "time to
smile" on the front and "Swatch Access"
on the back. The embossed "Swatch" on the back of the case
is also very unusual. Thanks to
Dino Dillewitz for the pictures.
Gold Member Contest 2017. The
Gold Member Contest 2017 is online.
The Gold Member status has a lot of benefits
(including a free Gold & Pioneer Event!). Be quick, be
creative and think outside the box! The contest finishes already
on 22-FEB! Update: The contest is closed
is the gallery of the approx. 110 submissions. Winners (six?)
have been notified on 09-MAR.
G&P event 2017. The
traditional G&P event 2017 will take place from 19 to 21-MAY in
Swatch Rocket Air 2017. Slopestyle
takes flight "back to the 80s": On 28 and 29-APR, the ice rink
of Thun, Switzerland, will be transformed into a bike paradise for the
8th annual Swatch Rocket Air
Mystery Vintage available in Hong
Kong. The well known Mystery Vintage special
packagings with three older Swatch watches are now also available
in Hong Kong. Price is 560 HKD (~$72 US). Update:
Dan tells me that the three
watches on the right are no longer part of the promotion - three
older Pop Swatches are now being offered. Thanks
to Sophia Chang for the information.
Black Magic variations. Here
is a Black
Magic (GB101) variant that I haven't seen before:
The variant has the small logo (in the
middle of the picture, prod-code 5075-P, country code 755 (=USA)) but
it is positioned lower compared to the well known GB101RE from 1984/85
(on the right). And there is the GB101
"Glitter" variant of course (scroll down).
125 years of ABB special. The
Swedish-Swiss company ABB
celebrates its 125th birthday in 2016. The company operates
mainly in robotics and the power and automation technology
areas. To celebrate the 125th anniversary, a very special Gent
Swatch 125 years ABB (GZ308-1)
has been released and distributed to the employees of ABB. It is
a unique Gent Swatch, not an older model with
a special strap! Swatch has rarely done this before for a
company. The back of the strap has a special
imprint. The watch is packaged in a nice paper
sleeve. Update: The 125 years ABBGent special is
available in a second, more elaborate special
packaging (GZ308-2?). Additional pictures: closeup
/ closed box front / closed
box back. I assume that this packaging is more rare.
Thanks to Fabien Perissinotto
for the hint.
Unreleased Marco prototype. Marco
is the designer of the quite successful Gent Alien
Baby (GG175) from 1998. On his website, he tells an
(scroll down!) about a never realized Swatch Dog
Eat Dog that he created before Alien Baby.
Apparently, "Swatch Corporate out in Switzerland felt that the Dog’s
gnashing teeth were a bit too intimidating" so the watch based on
Marco's iconic design Dog
Eat Dog was not produced. Marco has also published a
great video from the
launch day of Alien Baby at the (long gone) Swatch store on
57th street in New York City. A must see! The launch took
place on 20-AUG-1998 and the well known silver
special packaging of Alien Baby (limited to 500 pcs) was
sold on that day. Thanks to
Alain Choisy for the hint.
Chinese New Year special. 2017 is the Chinese Year of
the Rooster. As in the last 12 years (now the circle is
completed!), Swatch will release a special watch for the Chinese New
Year: Rocking Rooster
(SUOZ226). The watch is packaged in a nice tube.
Update: A giant Rocking
Rooster Maxi in the Ayala Mall in Makati (Philippines)
Thanks to R.J.Valdez for the
Montana 75-Years special. The Swiss ski service
equiment company Montana
has celebrated its 75 anniversary in 2014. A special New Gent
Swatch Montana 75-Years (SUOK105C)
has been released to commemorate the anniversary. The watch has
a special strap with the company logo on the
lower part. No information about limitation and
Artists To Swatchexhibition. Pioneer
Porello is currently showing about 1000 Swatch watches of
his collection in an exhibition called Artists
To Swatch. The exhibition is on display (until the
end of the year) at the North Reading Room at the Athenaeum
Music & Arts Library in La Jolla, CA. Here
is a photo of Roy next to his 1000-Swatch curtain. Update:
Pioneer member Esther
Montagner made the trip to La Jolla and took photos at the
Second Club special. As
in the last years, a second club special has been launched on 21-SEP
in Paris. The watch is called Piolin's
Time(SUOZ240S, 125 EURO)
and it is limited and numbered to 2626 pcs. It is designed by
the Argentinian artists Leo
Chiachio & Daniel Giannone. Further launch
events take place in New York (21-SEP, invitation only one day before
the event?!?), Frankfurt (22-SEP), Zurich (22-SEP at the Swatch Group
Lab), Geneva (date not yet known), Tilburg
(NL, 24-SEP), London
(30-SEP), and Bologna
(01-OCT). At each of the launch events, an ultra limited edition
of the watch (SUOZ240S-1) was available
(139 pcs total, 265 EURO): Paris 60 pcs, New York City 2
pcs, all other cities 3 pcs. Here
is the content of the ultra limited edition box (the postcards are not
included). Both editions are almost identical: The ultra
limited edition has an extra little carpet.
It is a reproduction (made in
Italy) of an original artwork ("Promesas",
1.13m x 1.17m) by Chiaco & Gianonne. Each watch is numbered
on the back, and the boxes
are numbered on the side. The
face of the watch is beautiful and the
hands are two little dachhunds (the favourite animal of Chiaco &
Gianonne). Every Piolin's Timecomes
with a free code for a club membership. You can either give it
to a friend or you can use it for yourself and receive and extra
surprise gift from the Club. Here is a
detailed report about the Paris launch event and here a a few pictures
from the Frankfurt launch. Update: Here
is the photo album by Chiaco & Gianonne themselves from the launch
event and here
is the report by swatch.stawi.de. Update 2: Here is the surprise gift from
the club that you get when you add the code of the second club watch
to your existing membership. You can use it as a small
bag.Update 3: On 20-DEC, Piolin's Timewas presented
in the hometown (Buenos Aires) of the Argentinian artists.

Mordillo Valentine's special. According
to this news
report, the Valentine's Swatch special 2017 is a super cute Gent
Swatch called Planet
Love(GZ307S) that has been designed by the well known
Argentinian cartoonist Guillermo
Mordillo simply known as Mordillo.
He is one of the most widely published cartoonists of the 1970s.
The Valentine's special is a limited and numbered edition of 14,999
pcs, packaged in a nice special
Chemours special. The Chemours Companyis an
American chemical company ("performance chemicals" business) that was
founded in July 2015 as a spin-off from DuPont.
A special New Gent Swatch Chemours
(SUOO701D) was distributed to celebrate
the spin-off. It is a New Gent Orangy
Pink Rebel (SUOO701) with two
special loops around the strap. No further information
about the limitation or distribution.
A tale about the early days of
Swatch. There are many different (and sometimes
conflicting) stories about the early days of Swatch and the sequence
of events that lead to the creation of SMH / Swatchgroup
by Nick Hayek. Here
is the interesting version by Peter Gross (former General Director of
Swiss Bank Corporation [nowadays UBS]). Update:
About two weeks later, the same newspaper publishes a guest
contribution which tells a different story and which emphasizes
the role of Ernst
Thomke (director of ETA Grenchen from 1978 to
1985 and heavily involved in the successful marketing of Swatch in the
WTC store Maxi. At the
opening of the Swatch
WTC store in New York City, a Maxi
Swatch commissioned for the store was unveiled. The maxi is
going to be displayed at the store for a year and then it will be
returned to the Artist (Shantell
Martin). The maxi is insured for $25,000 US in case it gets
damage or stolen. Some closeup pictures: face
/ lower strap / upper
strap. Here is more
information about the project and the artist.
Thanks to German Santiago for
the information and photos.
Swatch USA sleeves. Swatch USA
issued special sleeves for Black Friday(available via stores) and Cyber
Monday (for online orders). The Happy
Holidays sleeve may be more widely available (probably
worldwide with online orders).
Thanks to Brian Pier for the
information and photo.
Squiggly Auction. Squiggly
held a huge Swatch
auction on 16-DEC. 190 lots of rare and superrare Swatch
watches were auctioned. The lots included Kiki
Picasso (EUR 13000,00 tax excl), a Puff
set (EUR 16000,00 tax excl), Mimmo
Paladino (EUR 7500,00 tax excl) and many rare variants and
prototypes. Some of the final results were quite high.

Xmas Event 2016. The
Club Event 2016 took place in Rotterdam and Amsterdam,
Netherlands from 02 to 04-DEC. About 110 club members
participated at the event. A very exciting and surprising
special packaging Magic Claus Set (SZS24) was distributed to the event
participants, it is limited to only 200 pcs. The large red box
(about 26 x 29 x 5 cm) contains a New Gent Magic
Claus (SUOZ246S, numbered xxx/200
on the back), a special pair of sunglasses (Eyes
Of Claus, numbered!)
and a white beard that can be affixed
on the watch face. The outside of the
box is imprinted "Swatch xxx/200 swatch club Xmas event 2016".
Does anyone know the exact name of the special? It is "Santa
..."?!? Here is a detailed report from the Rotterdam Xmas event with
Portuguese Charity special. A
new charity special has been released in Portugal: A Gent Docinho (GZ309). The watch is
packaged in a cute paper sleeve.
Every watch that has been sold will grant one day of food to one of
the babies that currently live in the Ajuda
de Berço institution. Previously in 2002, Swatch had
released another Portuguese special (Fraldinhas
(GZ176)) which raised money for the charity. In late December,
an outdoor advertisement campaign will
promote the watch. Some print ads and even a TV ad are also

Swiss Destination Watch
collection. At the launch of the second
club watch in Zurich, a new Swiss Destination Watch collection
was unveiled ("ticking postcards"). It consists of seven watches
(packaged in the well known sleeve) which will be available starting
01-DEC for 90 CHF each: 1. Bern;
2. Geneva (SUOZ249); 3. Gotthard (SUOZ257, back of the strap / loop);
4. Jungfrau; 5. Luzern;
6. Zermatt; 7. Zurich.
(definitely inspired by Champs
de Züri (GR134)) The
watches will be available only in the respective cities (Jungfrau in
Interlaken, Gotthard in Tessin). The Swiss newspaper Blick
has a report
about the watches. Update: Here
is the official information about the Greetings From Switzerland
watches, including details about availability (list of Swatch
stores). Update 2: A nice special
box is also available, it holds three watches from the
collection (back of the box).
For the current Grüezi All collection, a similar box is available: front / back.
Thanks to Christine Tanner and
to Fabien Perissinotto for the pictures and information.
Remembering Jean Robert. The
Swiss Swatch designer Jean Robert passed away in DEC-2016
at the age of 71. Together with his wife Käti Robert-Durrer, he was
for the product appearance and the design of the Swatch
collections during the "golden", iconic years 1983 to 1989.
They have designed about 360(!) Swatches which went
into production and more than 1000(!!)
Swatch watches in total with examples such as X-Rated,
Nautilus, Grey Memphis, etc. etc! In case that you
have missed it: Here
is a detailed report about the finissage event of the great Robert
& Durrer Exhibition in Winterthur in 2011. As a side
note: I think that I know who actually took the picture
in the newspaper report... Update: Here
is an older report and here
is another recognition of Jean Robert. Update 2: Here
is another background story about him. Thanks to Lauren Stefani for the hint.
Venice Destination special. The
Venice Destination special Aquagranda
(GZ306) is now available. It comes in the well known paper
Mix & Match Pins and Loops. Now
you can customize your Swatch with Mix
& Match Pins and Loops. Soon available in your
nearest Swatch store.
Kenny Scharf unreleased Swatch. Mandala Time (GG130) is an
unreleased Swatch by the US artist Kenny
Scharf. Apparently, the watch (Kenny wanted to call
it Worm Time) was almost ready to be released (in 1994?)
because it already had a reference number. Kenny Scharf also
painted a unique special
packaging for Mandala Time, probably a unique
piece. Similar hand painted special packagings for his Swatch
watches Monster Time and
Fiz N'Zip also exist.
Additionally, he designed a few very nice dials
for Swatch watches.
Rascal & M.Bartalos special
packaging. Similar to the hand painted special packagings
for the Kenny Scharf Swatch watches, a unique hand painted packaging
for Moonchild by Rascal also
exists. Here is a pictures of the
back of the packaging. Update: Here
is a hand painted special packaging for Running
Time by Michael
Times Square Underground Club
event. On 03-DEC, Swatch Club will hold an event "in,
around, or under" Times Square in New York City. Sounds
mysterious! Too bad that it is in parallel to the Xmas Club
event in Rotterdam.
Art Fair Survival Party at PAMM.
On 17-NOV, the third Thursday
Art Fair Survival Party takes place at the PAMM
(Pérez Art Museum Miami). Swatch Club members are invited and
they will receive complimentary drinks and probably an "Art Fair
Survival Kit". Swatch will feature ten of its
artist special watches, including the works of Kiki Picasso, Keith
Haring, David LaChapelle and several others, along with the second
Swatch Club artist special, Piolin’s
Time, designed by Argentine artists Leo Chiachio and
Daniel Giannone. So finally again a chance to see these good
old Swatch Art specials "in person". Update: Here
are some photos from the party, taken by Swatch. Thanks to Fred McFarland for the
Dubai Destination special. A
Dubai Destination special New Gent called Desert
Beauty (SUOZ256) special is now available in the UAE
(United Arab Emirates). The watch is packaged in the well known
Destination paper sleeve. You can
find more information in this news
report. Price is a little less than 80 EURO.
Tribute to JP Auclair special. Jean-Philippe
Auclair ("JP Auclair") was a Canadian freeskiier and the captain
for Team Americas at the Swatch
Skiers Cup 2014. He died alongside Andreas Fransson in an
avalanche on 29-SEP 2014 on Monte San Lorenzo in Aysen, Chile while
filming. During the last Swatch sponsored Skiers Cup 2015
in Zermatt, Switzerland, a very limited (30 pcs!) commemorative Swatch
Irony Chrono A Tribute to JP Auclair
(YVB402C) was distributed to athletes and
event staff. It is a Irony Chrono Destination
NYC (YVB402) with a special print A
Tribute to JP Auclair on the side of the watch case.
The watch is packaged in a white paper sleeve (front
/ back). So this is a very very
