This page does not contain any fancy pictures but I hope to provide some
substantial information for collectors. If you want to see some pictures
of interesting swatches then go to my virtual
swatch museum. Although I am probably a bit biased, it is highly recommended
, especially the section about special packagings.
Older Swatch info (Last updated:
news from 2013 are below:
at ETA in Grenchen. On 29-DEC, a fire
broke out in the galvanic department of the main
building of ETA Manufacture Horlogère
in Grenchen. The workshop has been entirely destroyed,
fortunately nobody was harmed. The fire was under control after
about one hour and put out shortly after. A more detailed report
with pictures can be found here.
Update: The damage
to the workshop is serious! Thanks to Henk Seligmann for the hint.
- Online store Xmas sleeve. Swatch
gives you a nice special Xmas sleeve
with every watch that you purchase in the online store (at least the
German one, so check it out yourself!). Update:
Pedro Mota sent me a picture of more
Xmas sleeves and also a CD cover.
- Venice Swatch Faces book. As
an early Xmas gift, Swatch has sent a very nice Swatch
Faces book to all Venice
Faces Event participants (mid September). The book also contains a very nice poster
from the photo session with the
club members. Thank you, Swatch, you treat us very well in the
last months! :-)
- Xmas Club event Vienna 2013.
The traditional Swatch
The Club Xmas event 2013 took place in Vienna, Austria, from
28-NOV to 01-DEC. About 130 collectors participated at the
event. Each participant received a very nice special New Gent White
Gondolas (SUOZ401S), packaged in a
very nice wooden
box). The special is limited to 200 pcs, numbered on the
back of the watch and on the bottom of
the wooden box (very funny!). Here
is an overview of the many other goodies that the event participants
received. Here is a detailed report about the event with many
- Swatch The Club UK Xmas
event. On 07-DEC, the traditional Swatch The Club UK
Xmas event took place in London. About 25 club members
participated at the event. After an outdoor visit of street art in
London and a nice Pizza in a restaurant, it was time for some real
action by the club members themselves! Check out the pictures
by Bob Gardner and Henk Seligmann...
- Portuguese Xmas dinner.
On 06-DEC, a Xmas
dinner for the Portuguese Swatch
collectors took place in Oporto.
The collectors received a nice gift
package (including a FIVB
Staff special) and a special Swatch
Xmas sock from Swatch Portugal. Thanks to Pedro Mota for the pictures.
- Colombo Shopping Center opening
special. The first
Portuguese Swatch Flagship Store opened in AUG-2013 in the Colombo Shopping Center,
Lisbon. The official opening of the store took place on 29-OCT
and a Colombo
Shopping Center opening special (GW165C)
was released, limited to 100 pieces.
It is a Gent Not
Available In Colour (GW165) with two special loops
around the strap. The special comes packaged in a nice paper
sleeve. Update: Originally,
it was planned to open the shop in September already: A "Setembro
2013" loop also exists but this was never available of
course. Thanks to Pedro Mota for the
information and pictures.
- Remembering Fiorenzo
Barindelli. A sad loss for the Swatch collectors
community: On 05-DEC, Fiorenzo
Barindelli passed away. Fiorenzo will be
remembered as one of the greatest Swatch collectors. His Swatch
collection was in the Guiness
Book of Records for five consecutive years. In 2003,
his dream came true and he opened the first Swatch World
Museum in Italy. He published a great book (Love For Swatch) in
2007. The Swatch community will miss him.
- London Swatch Taxi.
Denis has encountered a very special Swatch
Taxi in London, promoting the Swatch Xmas collection.
reloaded. According to this tweet
from Swatch, the legendary net.hunt
game will start again in a few days. The original
net.hunt game took
place in the early days of the internet, in APR-1996, 17 ago. If
you haven't done so already: Click here
to read the story about the original Swatch net.hunt
and to find out how the internet looked like more than 10
17 years ago! It was so much fun back then! Update:
is live now. The first teams have already formed (don't mess
with Team #2 - 'The Penguins'!). The game starts on 27-OCT and
runs until 06-NOV. The first
prize is a three day trip to London (25 to 28-NOV) for the
launch of the new Swatch designed by Mika (on 26-NOV). Update 2:
is finished now. We managed to place 5 teams consisting of
"Swatch friends" in the Top
10, not too bad. Some of the 10
puzzles were really hard (I doubt that one team found the way to
#10, extremely clever!), some were solved in record
time, in less than 3 minutes! An unforgettable experience,
many friends got up at 3am every night, and I am sure that no
participant will forget the Abbey
Road story of puzzle
#3. Chapeau to Swatch The Club for a really fascinating
game and a (mostly :-) smooth organization. Compliments, well
thought out! I hope that it does not take another 17 years for
the next net.hunt. Update:
Here is a picture of the
prizes that were awarded for net.hunt: 1. A metal net.hunt box
with a T-shirt, a mouse, and a mouse pad (for the teams in the Top
10); 2. Swatch The Club headphones (for a nice story about
- Mystery Vintage Boxes in the
US. Starting 28-NOV, the Mystery
Vintage Boxes will be available again in the US. Three
older Gent or Lady or Scuba or Pop in a nice box for $70 US.
- Emil Steinberger special. Emil
Steinberger is a Swiss
comedian, writer, director and actor who enjoyed quite some fame
during the 70s and 80s in Switzerland and Germany (and
Austria?). His movie Die
Schweizermacher is a must-see if you are remotely interested in
Switzerland :-) A special Gent Swatch Caporal Schnyder (GZ289S)
will be released in Switzerland (only!) on
23-NOV, limited to 880 pcs, numbered on the back of the watch
and on the special paper sleeve. Update:
The special was launched during
a signature session with Emil on 23-NOV at
the Swatch store in Luzern. He patiently signed
200 specials until they were sold out at the store. Click
here if you want to see more pictures
from the signing. Here
is a nice event video by Swatch.
Thanks to Alain
Choisy and Christine Tanner for the update and picture.
- Swatch production line for visitors
at the new Swatch headquarters. You may know that
Swatch is constructing fascinating new
headquarters for Swatch and Omega in Biel, made of wood and
designed by Japanese architect Shigeru
Ban. (eg. Japanese
Pavilion at the Hannover World Exhibition Expo 2000). The
construction of the new Swatch and Omega headquarters will start in
2014. According to this newspaper
article, Swatch boss Nick Hayek plans to integrate a
demonstration Swatch production line (like a "Schaukäserei" :-) for
- Swatch @ Galeries Lafayette Xmas
decoration. The beautiful Xmas
decoration at the Paris shopping center Galeries
Lafayette Haussmann features a huge Xmas tree, decorated with a
watch: The Swatch
Est. 1983 (SUOZ161).
- Xmas special 2013. According to the Squiggly newsletter,
the Xmas special 2013 is called Red Knit (SUOZ172S) and is
comes in a nice special
packaging including a hot water bottle. It is limited to
14999 pcs and it will be available at the beginning of December. Update: More
pictures of the special. Retail will be 90 EURO.
Thanks to German
Santiago for the information and picture.
- "Mission Antarctic" German
Antarctic is the new movie starring Swatch PROTEAM
De Le Rue. The German
premiere of the movie will take place in the Filmtheater
Sendlinger Tor, Munich on 31-OCT. On that day, Xavier De
Le Rue will sign the Swatch This
Moment (SUOW106) during a signature session from 6pm to 6.30pm
at the Swatch Store, Marienplatz in Munich.
- New product line SISTEM51.
During a press
conference at Baselworld
2013, Nick Hayek has introduced a major new Swatch
innovation: A new product line called SISTEM51 (strange name,
"System51" was probably already 'taken' I guess), just in time for the
30th anniversary of Swatch. As a world premiere, SISTEM51
features a mechanical movement with only 51
parts (Swatch lucky number!) which is fully automated assembled
in five separate modules.
The modules are held together with only one central screw.
90 hour power reserve, accuracy of 5 seconds per day. It is the
only mechanical movement ever made whose assembly is 100% automated.
The high-tech escapement has no regulator; the rate is set at the
factory with a laser, making the manual rate adjustments normally
required by a mechanical watch unnecessary (and impossible). The watch will be in the
stores on 17-OCT. The price will be between 100 and 200
Swiss Francs ("closer to 100 than to 200" according to Nick
Hayek). The inital collection will consist of three
watches: 1. SISTEM51 Red (or Blue?);
2. SISTEM51 White; 3. SISTEM51
Black. Update: The
in-store launch date has been pushed back to December
(cw 51 or 52), possibly delayed until 2014. Probably Red and
will be produced, so the initial collection will consist of four
watches. Update2: SISTEM51
will be launched in Switzerland (only!) in cw 51 (haha!), probably on
15-DEC at the Cité
Du Temps in Geneva. All other countries will get
SISTEM51 in 2014.
- Michael Jackson's Swatch? Check
ebay auction. The seller claims that Michael Jackson has
worn a Pirelli Gent swatch in the

- Matteo Thun Swatch designs.
Thun is a famous architect and designer from Italy. From
1990 to 1993, he was Art Director for Swatch. He designed the
Xmas special 1992: Chandelier (GZ125).
On Matteo Thun's website you can find a special
page about Chandelier,
including the original design
sketch. Similar pages exist for the Automatic
sketch) and an unreleased Swatch
table clock prototype.
- Mystery Box online promo. The
German Swatch Online Store (and only Germany!) has a nice promotion
together with paypal: If you buy a Swatch watch or a Swatch
Bijoux, you can purchase an additional mystery box containing one
random Swatch (out of five
different models, including Corto
Maltese (SUJZ106-E)) for 30 EURO but only if you pay with
paypal. Update: The
mystery box looks "as
usual" but this time, the special
ref.code is easily visible from outside. The promotion
ends on 08-OCT. Thanks to Daniel Licata for
- Swatch Finder Oddities. You
probably have already checked out the online Swatch
Finder. It is nice but has a few quirks here and
there. Some interesting finds: The Gold
& Pioneer special from 2006 is called Fiori della Nonna (SFK178)
("Grandma's Flowers"). Some very early specials now have an
official ref. no.: Black
Puff (GZ002), Havana
Puff (GZ003), Royal
Puff (GZ004), Petrol
Puff (GZ005), Cardinal Puff (GZ006), Desert Puff (GZ007), Kiki Picasso (GZ008), Division
de Campagne (GZ009), Original Jelly Fish
de Campagne (GZ009) is a really strange watch, it was probably
released in 1984 or 1985 (looks very similar to Navy
Roman (GN702, 1984), different color of the case). Does
anyone have further information? I think that it is an error to
include this watch in the official specials. But on the other
hand, the Baselworld
2013 exhibition also included some lady
prototypes in the "official" collection... Thanks to Daniel Licata for the information.
- Brussels Swatch auction. Here
is the result overview of a large Swatch auction that took place in
Brussels on 15-DEC-2012. Only few lots were sold, some of them
for a very low price. Thanks to Daniel Licata for

athletes. Does anyone know the model? Here
are some impressions from the event. Update2:
Here is a nice report by

special watch is now available
in the Swiss Online Store.

- José Carlos Casado artist special.
A new special by the Spanish artist José Carlos Casado has been
released: A New Gent OFF
(SUOZ162). The watch comes packaged in a very nice and colourful
presentation box: opened / closed.
The watch will be available in two versions: 8000 pieces (not
numbered) will be sold at all Swatch stores around the world, ref.code
is SUOZ162, price is 75 EURO. Additionally, 888 pieces (numbered
xxx/888 at the back of the watch and on the
box, ref.code is SUOZ162S) will be sold in Venice (and only in
Venice!) during the 55th International Art Exhibition - La
Biennale di Venezia. This Venice version costs
125 EUR, each box contains a unique watercolour
painting signed by the artist. This is a fantastic special
but it gets even better: José Carlos Casado (who was also an
artist in residence at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in
Shanghai from SEP-2012 to MAR-2013) has a unique
section with information
about this watch on his website: You can register
your special on his website. If you own number 8,
88, or 888, you will receive a gift from the artist. And
you can buy limited
edition prints and a unique flipbook related to the watch
directly from the artist. Swatch has produced a nice video about

This watch will be available at all Swatch stores world wide, not

Est. 1983 (SUOZ161). The only difference is the writing on
the big gear wheel (thanks to secondwatch.it):
"thirty years" in the four Swiss languages ("trente
ans - trenta anni - dreissig jahre - trent anns") instead of
"celebrate". Thanks to
Christine Tanner for the information and picture.

stone, a Swatch
watch and a newspaper was preserved for the future. A video
shows the ceremony and the Swatch... Thanks
to Christine Tanner for the link.
- Folon information leaflet. During
a recent visit to Brussels, Torsten
Rube found a Folon artist Swatch in a
shop. More interesting than the watch (which is not that hard to
find) is the accompanying small leaflet
in the plastic box. On the back of
the leaflet, there is an information
text by Folon about his Swatch special and instructions ("How do
you use your one-hand Swatch?") in French, Dutch, and English.
In many years of Swatch collecting, I haven't seen this leaflet
so far. Do you have any further information about the leaflet?
- X-Fighters Glen Helen
special. On 11-MAY, the Red Bull X-Fighters return
to the US: to the Glen Helen Raceway
(California). A special Chrono Plastic Limonata RB XFighters 2013
has been released. It is currently available exclusively at the
Coast Plaza store.
- The Swatch Eye Newspaper. Swatch
has started a new newspaper called The Swatch Eye. It replaces
the previous magazine called the
Swatch Eye is available in several different languages,
- Don Bosco special. At
the end of 2012, a special Don
Bosco Swatch has been released by the Don
Bosco Mandaluyong Alumni Association, Inc., Manila,
Philippines. It is an X-Large Just
Enough (SUDM101) from 2003, with a special strap. The
watch is limited to 600 pcs and it comes packaged in a paper
sleeve. Here is more
information about the watch.
- FIFA gent specials. A
nice Gent special FIFA
- For the Game. For the World. (GB247I) has surfaced,
issued by the Fédération
Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).
It is a Gent Black Suit (GB247) with a
special strap. Limitation is unknown. A similar
special related to
the FIFA Futsal World Cup Thailand 2012
- IOC Full-Blooded special. A
new IOC special has surfaced: Full-Blooded
Night Olympia Logo (SVCZ4001AG).
- Bosco Sochi Olympic specials.
The first Swatch specials related to the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games
have surfaced: The russian lifestyle brand Bosco has issued two nice
Swatch watches, limited to 2000 pcs (each? in total?): 1.
(SUON701E), with a nice paper
inlay in the back of the plastic case; 2. Bosco Red (SUOR701C), with
a nice paper inlay in the back of the
plastic case. Both are strap variants of the respective New Gent
Rebel (SUON701) and Red
- Nick Hayek interview. Here
is an interesting interview with Nick Hayek (in German). He
talks about Baselworld, Swatch, wages in Switzerland etc. Swatch
won't be again at Baselworld in the coming years.
- Swatch at Baselworld. For
the first time in 30 years, Swatch is present at the World Watch and
Jewellery Show Baselworld
2013 (25-APR to 02-MAY). Swatch has a huge booth
called Planet Swatch (leaflet
about the Swatch booth). The booth will change everyday to a new
Day 1 (25-APR): Innovation (SISTEM51 was
introduced on that day); Day 2: Art;
Day 3: Fashion;
Day 4: Sports;
Day 5: Ladies
(G&P event!) etc. At the booth, more than 5,000 different
Swatch watch models produced in three decades (probably a "complete"
collection) are shown.
- Milano Pop-Up Store. secondwatch.it reports that
a temporary Swatch
Pop-Up store has been opened in Milano, Via Montenapoleone 6
(Italy) for three months. Two new product lines will be
available in this store: New
Irony Chrono from 15-MAY and Scuba Libre from
06-JUN. Update: Here
are some photos of the actual store, very nice.
- Rocket Air Club Event / Special.
On 12 and 13-APR, the biggest mountain bike slopestyle event in
Air, took place in Thun. A special event Swatch
was released and a club event was
also held. The Rocket
Air special (SUSG400D) is
a Chrono Plastic Limonata (SUSG400) with a special loop around the strap and a nice paper sleeve. Limitation is 200 pcs.
Thanks to Christine
Tanner for the information
and to Jacky Beauverd for
- Sion production jubilees.
The 150,000,000th Swatch watch produced at ETA
Sion (in 2009): a Gent Once
Again (GB743). And the 199,999,999th
Swatch watch was produced at ETA Sion in only three
years later on 12-OCT-2012: A New Gent Black Rebel
(SUOB702). The metal presentation box is signed
by Nick Hayek. Important:
The total number of Swatch watches produced until these dates
is much higher. We are talking about the ETA Sion production
site only! There is also Grenchen, Bettlach, ....
- Portuguese Mother's Day
special. The Lady Wash Mashine (LS114) from
the current collection has been issued (with a unique ref.no. )
as a mother's day special in Portugal.
In this form, it is not available in other countries. Thanks
to Pedro Mota for the
information and picture.
- Swiss gent special. From
mid April, a new gent special D'Schwizer
(GZ286) will be available in Switzerland only. The watch comes
packaged in a paper sleeve. On the strap of
the watch, you can find the coat
of arms of the 26 swiss cantons. If you look closely at
the strap, you will notice that the coat of arms have been revisited
in a humouristic way. These revisited coat of arms have
already been used on the 2012
annual report of the Swatch
Group. The Swiss
version of the 2012 annual report has been published in Swiss
German, also quite funny and a provocative statement! Thanks
Choisy for the information and picture.
- Swatch 30th anniversary
special. On 01-MAR, Swatch will officially celebrate
anniversary. A special New Gent SWATCH Est. 1983 (SUOZ161, closeup
of watch face) will be released to commemorate the event according to
newspaper report. The watch will not be limited but it is
packaged in a nice golden paper sleeve.
I am sure that much more 30th anniversary surprises will follow this
year, probably announced by Nick Hayek on 25-APR during a Baselworld 2013 press
conference (remember: Swatch
watches make 30th anniversary Basel debut). Lorenzo Petrantoni (he
already has designed a few artist
Swatches) has designed a wonderful
poster relating to the 30th anniversary. Where can we get
this poster?? Update:
Spiegel Online also has a nice report
about the 30th anniversary (with lots of pictures nicked from my Old Ads
page!) as well as Neue Züricher Zeitung from
Switzerland. And German Tagesschau. Thanks
for the hint.
- Gold & Pioneer Event
2013. The traditional Gold & Pioneer Event 2013
will take place from 27-APR to 01-MAY. It is rumoured that a
visit to the World Watch and Jewellery Show Baselworld 2013 will be
part of the event, especially as "Swatch
watches make 30th anniversary Basel debut": A press
conference with Swatch Group chief executive Nick Hayek will take
place on 25-APR, with details about the 30th anniversary celebrations
for Swatch. Update: The
member contest is closed by now. There are a lot of
fantastic entries in the Gold
member contest gallery! secondwatch.it
has computed some interesting
statistics about the 70 contest entries....
- Roland Garros 2013 special. Two
special watches will be released in France for the Roland Garros French Open Tennis tournament
(Paris, 21-MAY to 09-JUN): White Smash (GZ412, Gent)
Smash (SUOZ400, New Gent). More information (in
russian language :-) here.
Thanks to Alain Choisy for the
Jelly withdrawn from sale. One of the Gent
watches from the current Spring / Summer collection has been withdrawn
from sale: Blue
Jelly (GR706) will not be available so if you see it
somewhere (I doubt it), pick it up :-) Thanks to Alain Choisy for the information.
- Swatch CEO on iWatch.
to enter the watch making business. During the press conference
on the annual results of Swatch Group in Grenchen,
Switzerland on 06-MAR, Nick Hayek (CEO of Swatch Group) was sceptical
about this: 'I
Don't Believe It's the Next Revolution'. Back in the late
90s and in the early 00s, Swatch
had thought about a mobile phone on the wrist but never showed a
- Taiwan International Festival of
Arts special. For the Taiwan International Festival of Arts
2012 (TIFA), a Gent special 2012 TIFA (GW123C,
a Gent Quarters
Gone (GW123, from 1999) with a new strap) has been
released. The special strap has been designed by the famous
Taiwanese CD designer Xiao
Qing-yang (four times Grammy award nomination for the best CD cover design). The watch
comes packaged in a nice paper
sleeve and is limited to 500 pcs, not numbered. Thanks
to Sophia Chang for the information and
- 1983 US advertisement
leaflet. I just added two pictures of something really
unique to my virtual museum of old Swatch
advertisement material: A four page 1983 US advertisement
leaflet: page 1&4 / page 2&3. It shows the
1983 collection (the "famous 25 first" 1983 Gent Swatches), released
in March 1983 in the US. I am not sure if it is the first Swatch
advertisement leaflet ever. I think that it is very interesting
that seven different prices
($19.99, $24.50, $27.50, $29.95, $32.50, $34.50, $37.50 US) were
used. Note that the ref.no.s are different to the ones that we
know today! The cheapest one ($19.99, GB012 = GB001) is not
pictured. Can anyone spot any variants? Update:
This leaflet is also now featured in a nice Spiegel Online report about
the 30th anniversary of Swatch (they didn't ask for permission of
- Red Bull Crashed Ice Lausanne special.
On 01 and 02-MAR, the Red
Bull Crashed Ice event will take place in Lausanne,
Switzerland. A special
paper sleeve containing the regular Chrono Plastic Rebirth Blue (SUSN401-1)
will be released to commemorate the event, limited to 550 pcs. Thanks to Jacky
Beauverd for the information and picture.
- Paris "Mona Lisa" style Swatch
special. On 25-FEB, a Mona Lisa style Swatch Lisa Fan (GZ280) designed
Carieri was launched during a private
event at the Swatch store in the Louvre, Paris. It is not
limited but will only be sold at this one store until mid march,
afterwards in France only. Some Facebook pictures by Yannick
"painting" / huge
decoration / "Lisa
Fan" cartoon graphic / lots
of people in the store. Update:
has more pictures from the event, including pictures of the actual
watch in a nice paper sleeve. Claudia Carieri was not
present during the launch event. Update
2: During the launch on 25-FEB, four
special pins were distributed.
- 2013 Spring / Summer collection / A new Square watch. A
new Square watch will be released soon (the last Square was released
in 2011): White Barette
(SUBK151). Update: And if you want to see more
2013 Swatch watches, check out the SwatchFans
facebook page... Update 2: Jürgen Papst
(watchpapst) tells me that from now on, Swatch will go back and
release two collections per year as they did until 2011: Spring
/ Summer and Fall / Winter. You can browse the complete Spring
/ Summer 2013 collection on his website already. Update
that the online
leaflet on the swatch.com website contains many additional
watches which are not yet released. One interesting find is the
upcoming release of another iswatch
(SIK121D; again an older watch (.beat Pavimento, SIK121CA from
2006) with a special new strap, rumoured to be limited to 4215(?!?)
pcs). Update 4: The
actual watches were shown at the Swatch Skiers Cup event in
Zermatt: Touch / Gent&Skin / Irony.
Thanks to Alain Choisy and
Christine Tanner for the pictures.
- German Automatic special. An
interesting automatic special has surfaced in Germany: SAB103C
Board from 1995 with a special loop around the
strap). The loop seems to be the one from the Inocente Spain special from
2002 but SAB103C was not part of the specials back then as far as I
know. Strange... Thanks to
Kuttler for the picture.
- Mother?s Day special
packaging. For Mother's Day 2013, Swatch has released
a very nice special packaging called Kalinka Malinka (SZS07), it
is inspired by Russian folklore. The special is limited to 6000
pcs. The nested set of five dolls has three pretty girls hidden
inside, each with a Swatch watch wrapped around her waist: A New Gent, a Gent
and a Lady. secondwatch.it
has an actual
picture of the set.
- 2013 Valentine's special. Here
is a picture of the Valentine's special for 2013. It has an
interesting look on the backside.
Update: This blog
from Malaysia confirms it: The Valentine's special 2013 is a
Gent called A
la Folie (GZ281). It comes packaged in a nice pink
ball, similar to the Moby special. The special has an
additional nice detail: The bracelet smells like vanilla!
is a nice blog entry about the launch of the 2013 Valentine's special
and other new Swatch watches from the 2013 collection in Taiwan.
shows a funny production
error variant of the watch. Thanks to Marco Soares and
to Sophia Chang for the information.
of the Holy Spirit Centennial Swatch
. For the Centennial
Celebration of the College
of the Holy Spirit
, Manila, Philippines, a special
Swatch watch has been
developed and marketed to all alumnae starting in NOV-2012.
The design incorporates the Centennial theme ?Spirit
? and features a
which reflects the spirit which will welcome alumnae
attending the festivities at this milestone event. The watch
is a Jelly In Jelly Blingstone
special strap and an extra loop Truth In Love
strap. The watch comes packaged in a nice paper
. See here
for more details.
- 1984 Paris launch invitation.
A very nice piece of Swatch history:
On 03-APR-1984, a Swatch launch event took place in Paris,
France. Here is a picture of the large invitation card: front / back
(size is about 22 x 32 cm). Is it the first time that Swatch
watches were available in France? I assume not (but I just can't
find it in the books)...
- Red Bull X-Fighters London
special. The Red
Bull X-Fighters London 2010 special (SUIB400K) is a
Chrono Mister Chrono (SUIB400)
with a special strap. Michael
tells me that it was released in 2010 and that similar watches also
exist for the other 2010 tour stops: Giza, Rome, Moscow,
Mexico. And a version without any city loop exists as well.
- Swatch London "Pop Up" store.
Swatch Pop up store is opening on 26-JAN on Oxford Street
London, opposite Selfridges... The concept is probably quite
similar to the Instant Stores that Swatch had opened
in 2005/2006 in Amsterdam (Stationsplein 15A, DEC-2005), Barcelona
(NOV-2005), Madrid (SEP-2005 in Preciados), Berlin (JUL-2005),
Montreux (during the Montreux Jazz Festival), Zürich (at the Cabaret
Voltaire in AUG-2005), Shanghai, Paris, and London (on 11-SEP-2005
during the Urban Expression event).
- BMX Supercross special.
BMX Supercross special has surfaced. As usual,
Alain Choisy is able to provide more details: Three
(four?)specials have been released so far: 1. in 2009 a Swatch
with a red bracelet, more details are unknown. 2. UCI BMX Supercross 2010 (SUIB400C,
2010, a Chrono Mister Chrono (SUIB400)
with a special strap); 3. UCI BMX Supercross 2011 (SUIK403C, 2011, a
Chrono Dramatic Deco (SUIK403)
with a special strap); 4. in 2012??
- Great Swatch Prototypes
websites. 2013 is the 30th anniversary of
Swatch. Many great surprises will be launched this year.
As a first surprise, I recently stumbled upon www.swatch-prototypes.com.
It is a great site that shows and explains a lot about early Swatch
history. Check it out, a must for the serious Swatch
collector! There are many nice pieces on the website but also
some dubious ones (in my opinion), for example the GR 700, GN 700, GT 702 Proto-Variant
and the GN 400, GT 402, GT 403 Ladies Version
Prototype on the 1983 page look extremely
glued... Does anyone know who made this website? The
owner(s) wish to stay anonymous... The site also has a smaller
'sister' website at www.swatchprototypes.com.
