Xmas 2003 Swatch The Club Event in Chamonix / Geneva

6 to 8-DEC-2003

report by Tracey Waldron

The first night we had a nice dinner and then back to the hotel. The welcome package was a backpack and fleece with the Jingle Jangle logo on it. Very cute! The guys got brown and the girls got a peachy orange colour. We also got a fleece hat. You could choose a leopard print or a blue cap. We also got one of those caps they gave us at the mystery park but it was more fleecy and heavy.

The next day we headed up the mountain for some snow fun. They split us into groups. The group I was in started the day with doing some kind of tobogganing down the hill. The object that took you down the hill was inflatable and you positioned yourself on it stomach down - face forward. I was a bit nervous because I am not use to going down a hill face first. Oh - you had to wear a helmet during this activity. Gee - I wonder why.... After that, we went dogsledding. It was a stand up sledge with 3 dogs. My dogs didn't seem to want to work. I had to practically push them the entire way. Nikolai (from Germany) was behind me and his lead dog kept going so fast that he ended up running between my legs. I felt something weird on my legs and when I looked down there was this white fuzzy dog running like crazy. It was very funny. On the way back, my dogs were so excited to go home that they wouldn't stop. They ran like mad dogs and it was difficult to control them. They started taking on the dog sled in front of me and I tried to slow down with very little luck. Nickoli's dogs were doing the same thing and started taking over my dogs too. My sled ended up turning over and had his sled almost on top of me. My foot got wedged between the 2 sleds and I couldn't move. My dogs kept trying to run as did Nickoi's. Dogs, sledges and people were all tangled up together. I just had to laugh (next day I was sore all over!!!). After this, we all went to lunch. Then back to the snow. We then went snow shoeing. It was a beautiful walk. There was this one part of the walk where you could see the mountains and this sea of fog. It was quite beautiful. The entire walk was beautiful. Tonight we went to a quaint little restaurant that we took over until 11pm. The food wasn't bad but they gave us this weird hunk of lamb that looked like a whole leg and was still moving. Okay not really moving but it was barely cooked and I just couldn't eat it. The dessert was marvelous. One of my favourites. It was a warm chocolate cake that when you cut into it it had a liquidy chocolate centre. Yum! Here at the restaurant is where we got our special. They called us one by one and gave us the special and we had to say something to the crowd. We also got to pick a mystery gift from under the tree. The gifts ranged from wallets to shirts to swatches to a James Bond Event special (I think there was only one of these). After this was dancing and it was open up to the public. Quite a few of us were there until 2am and beyond.

The next day we headed back to Geneva but first we went up one of the mountains via some kind of train. We walked around there for about an hour and looked a crystal museum (it was a cave tunnel in the mountain with different crystal formations behind glass). On the way to Geneva we had lunch. We were suppose to do the sledge through the town where we were eating lunch but I guess we ran out of time and it was cancelled. Something went wrong with the timing (I am guessing) because besides the sledge cancellation the dinner was scheduled only a few hours after we had lunch. It was way too close together. I had to force myself to eat most of the dinner so that later I wouldn't be too hungry. At dinner, more club members joined us and this is where they received their Christmas special. I should tell you that the difference between the special to everyone else and the one we got at the event had 2 differences. 1) the inside the box is white silk instead of red and 2) there is a writing on the outside front bottom of the package that says 'Swatch the Club Christmas 2003 Geneva Switzerland'. After dinner, we went to the tennis dream. We watched some tennis matches with various famous tennis players. I guess it was 'kinda' a competition. They were acting silly and doing funny things but there was still a score kept. After that, the concert. I was very surprised and pleased that Phil Collins was there. We went up to the stage to listen. We able to do this because we had VIP access. The rest of the concert was various artists (I guess they were famous - I just have never heard of them) and the little dreams kids (they sang & played instruments). I had a really good time. I wish there was more Phil Collins though! That was the end of the event. We went back to the hotel, I said my goodbyes and that was it.
