Swatch Gold & Pioneer Event Stresa / Ticino 2014

page 2 ("A boat trip on Lago Maggiore / Isola Bella")

On Friday morning, we met again at the entrance of the hotel for an extended boat trip on the Lago Maggiore, including a visit to Isola Bella.  Fortunately, the sun came out, just before we left the hotel.

Again, a short walk to our boat...

Another nice view of the hotel

Approaching Isola Bella

As nice a surprise, all female club members received a beautiful rose when leaving the boat!  Though it was not easy to carry it around during the day.

Isola Bella is situated in the Borromean Gulf 400 metres from the lakeside town of Stresa. The island is 320 metres long by 400 metres wide and is divided between the Palace, its Italianate garden, and a small fishing village.  So we entered the palace which was build in the 17th century.  The Borromeo family still spends the summer time in the palace.  Large parts of the palace and the garden are open to visitors during the day.  A beautiful location...

Nice marionettes in the cellar!

An interesting group of women from southern Germany...

After spending about an hour or so in the palace, it was time to visit the beautiful garden.  We were told that temperature is often 2-3 °C higher than in Stresa on the shore, so it is an ideal climate for flowers, citrons, ...  I think that the pictures speak for themselves.

At lunch time, it was time to leave Isola Bella and to move on to the next destination:  Brissago in Switzerland.  We passed a few other nice islands during the trip to Brissago.

Yes:  Customs in Brissago!

A short walk on the shore took us to the Centro Dannemann, a nice event location in a traditional cigar manufacturing plant right on the banks of Lake Maggiore.  It was also the place of the traditional Swatch kiosk for G&P members.
