Gold & Pioneer Event Time Lapse Geneva 2012

part 2: G&P kiosk at the Cité Du Temps / Boat Cruise on Lake Geneva

On friday morning, the buses took us to the center of Geneva.  We had a short walk to the Cité Du Temps where the traditional G&P kiosk took place.

Cité du Temps also features a permanent Swatch exhibition.  The claim "show all of the Swatch watches ever produced" is simply wrong as you will see further below.  But a significant number of Swatch watches can be seen, indeed.

tension (before the kiosk) is incredible :-)

Roberto checking out some specialities...

There are much, much more 1983 watches!

Paco explaining some little details

I only saw two really special watches in the exhibition.  Can you spot one of them in the picture below?

Yes, you are right!  I also had not seen a White Olympia (LZ101) with two little lines at 12 o'clock before.  The watch itself is mega rare (it was sold for $2625 US at a Christies auction in on 10-OCT-1992 in Geneva) but a LZ101 with two little lines at 12 o'clock had never surfaced.  Probably a Newseum remake or something like that...

And those little Pop prototypes (about the same size as a gent watch) were also quite interesting...

Here is a small slide show of a few of the watches in the exhibition:

We were split up in three different groups, according to out "kiosk time".  We were in group #2, so it was time for a quick city tour now:

I have to admit that most of us didn't really pay attention during the City walk but fortunately, there was a visit to the Swatch Store near the end :-)

As usual, I completely forgot to take pictures at the kiosk (I am probably still too excited after all these years :-) but Matthias has a few in his blog...

This year, the kiosk did not have any really old watches (there is probably nothing left in the vaults :-) but a lot of nice B2B watches in special packaging and/or with special straps.  It really had enough interesting watches, so that everyone was able to find something truly special...

We skipped the visit to the chocolate factory (it was really hot during the day) and we walked back to the hotel.  Our way back home led us to the entrance of the United Nations:

We had a fantastic afternoon at the pool (including a milk shake for 16 Swiss Francs [ouch!] and a few mini hamburgers for 30 Swiss Francs [ouch!!]) but the ambiance was really worth the price.

In the evening, it was "boat time", with a dinner on the Lake of Geneva.

Our bus was the first group on the boat and as the boat had to free up the landing pier for a few minutes, we already got a small excursion until the other buses arrived...

Mont Blanc (4810 m, highest mountain in Europe) in the back, some very expensive villas in the front...

As you can see, the evening was really perfect, great weather, beautiful sunset, well, you can't ask for much more...

yes, it was that much relaxing...

great dessert

And as a final surprise back at the hotel, we saw a really expensive car parked in front of the hotel:  A Bugatti Veyron. (1 to 2 Mio US$)
