Xmas Event Shanghai / Hong Kong 2011

part 3: Swatch Art Peace Hotel / boat cruise

After the quick city tour and the even faster visit to the silk factory, the buses took us back to the Swatch Art Peace Hotel.  Time for lunch and a detailed tour of the hotel afterwards.

Ted Scapa already had left some traces in the hotel.

seems as if Ted had been on a Shanghai city tour ("follow the Jimmy") as well!

The concept of the Swatch Art Peace Hotel is really interesting (some text snippets taken from the official press release):  Artists from around the world, including China, are invited to Shanghai to live and work in studios in the Hotel for about 3 to 6 months.  Everyone can apply online.  Artists who are chosen by the Selection Committee (including George Clooney) to participate in the Swatch Art Peace Hotel Guest Artist Program will experience the vibrant life of this unique artistic and cultural environment.  Two floors of the historic building have been transformed into eighteen artist workshops and living quarters.

The retail space on the ground floor of the Swatch Art Peace Hotel features four different watch boutiques: Breguet, Omega, Blancpain and Swatch.

And finally, the Swatch Art Peace Hotel features three themed suites and four themed rooms whose guests will enjoy the Hotel’s creative ambience, where art is an ongoing, “live” activity.

Our tour guide in the hotel was René Lorenceau, who is responsible for the "Artist Relations" in the hotel, so he was the best person to tell us about the hotel, the artists, and other details...  We also were allowed to take a few peeks into different artist workshops and living rooms.

After this very good and very detailed visit of the hotel, we went downstairs into the Swatch boutique in the hotel.  This store has a very nice and unique ceiling light (can be found in the NYC Times Square Swatch store as well!).

They also sold the new Xmas special Lucky Snow (GZ259S).

It has a "Shanghai" theme but as it was not a special/unique version, we decided to pass and opted for an afternoon drink on the roof terrace of the hotel.  It was the time shortly before sunset and one of those "it can't get better than this..." moments.

Well, our visit to the hotel had to come to an end and we walked back again to our hotel in order to prepare for dinner at Kathleens's5 Rooftop Restaurant & Bar on the top of the Shanghai Art Museum, near People's Square (which was once the Shanghai Horse Racing course).

Great entertainment between the different courses of the dinner:

But this was not all!  Swatch managed to add "one more thing" to an already fully packed day:  A Swatch The Club Xmas party on a Huangpu river boat !  Time for drinks, music, sightseeing, ...

yes, we do!

Shortly before midnight, we headed back to the hotel.  Time to pack our suitcases in order to prepare for the flight on the next day!
